Jamia-Tus Salam Masjid
Jamia-Tus Salam Masjid building at 818 Alum Rock Road, Birmingham was acquired in the summer of 1998 and the prayer and welfare facilities were established in the premises straight away.
The Ouranic education journey that started with a small group of pupils some 17 years ago and has grown steadily. Currently (in 2017) some 400 young people – boys and girls (aged 5-15) are benefiting from the quality education being delivered by a dedicated team of qualified staff specializing in their respective fields. A small number of adults are also served through adult education classes.
During the 17 years, countless tajweed students and some 80 Hifzul-Quraan students have completed their courses and moved on to pursue their conventional mainstream education to become professionals: doctors, accountants and teachers amongst other professions.
Those wishing to continue with their faith education have joined our Aalim / Aalimah classes and currently there are 16 scholar students enrolled in part-time and full-time courses. In 2017, the first ever cohort of Aalimahs at Jamia Tus Salam have started their final year and will be graduating in 2018 Insha’Allah under the studies of senior lecturer and student of Shaykul Islam Mufti Taqi Usmani Hafidahullah.
Construction Project
In 2010. It was realised that this larger than average property, that has served us well, is getting dated and space is limited for any further adaptations for expansion or extension to meet our current accommodation needs. In 2011, architectural plans were drawn up to replace the current building with a new Masjid with up-to-date classrooms and welfare facilities. In 2012, planning consent was secured and a collection campaign commenced to realise this project.
Over the last 5 years, demands on jamia Tus Salam, as a result of growing community needs, have increased significantly and we need to reassess our plans for the future yet again.
Alhamdulillah we have our architectural plans and the work is ready to commence but we need support: financially and in the form of duaas. In order to continue to meet the needs of today’s society and the young ummah. We need to get together and give what we can in the path of Allah SWT.
Relocation and Expansion Project
Alhamdulillah we have purchased 73 Treaford Lane, B8 2UE which will be used a temporary premise for Jamia ‘Ns Salam to continue to run its classes for students. Once the New Masjid Project has been completed, the educational and welfare facilities will be reverted back to jamia-Tus Salam at 818 Alum Rock Road. We will then be able to commence improvements at Treaford Lane for Fatima (RA) Academy.
This will be a women’s center where we will provide courses for basic and advance education in faith and skills. We will offer other social projects which will benefit the community Insha’Allah.
Future Community Facilities and Projects
Upon completion, the Masjid will revert to the new building at 818 Alum Rock Road along with the educational and welfare facilities. As part of the expansion plan, it will then become possible to commence improvements in the new premises to start the pending social projects; a Women’s Centre and a boarding school for young women. Courses will include both basic and advanced education in faith and skills for female Muslim Britons. Moving the girls and ladies classes there will relieve pressures on the Masjid building and will create room for other services. These plans will be developed and refined and finalised after the completion of the Masjid construction project.
Salam Trust will be working on interfaith community projects to promote awareness and give dawah to help shape the future generation into upstanding citizens.
